Suzan L. Marquis Pysher

LINESVILLE — Suzan L. Marquis Pysher, 62, of Linesville, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at her residence after a courageous six and one-half-year battle with amelanotic melanoma.

Born Feb. 5, 1950, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Edwin and Betty White Marquis. She married Dale J. Pysher on June 13, 1972, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Suzan graduated from Baldwin High School in Pittsburgh in 1968. She then received her bachelor of arts in history and master of arts in education from Allegheny College. She earned her certification in special education for learning disabilities from John Carroll University. Also, Suzan had a supervision certification from Edinboro University.

Sue dedicated her life to helping children. While at Allegheny, she did volunteer work at Bethesda Children’s Home and spent a summer as a counselor at Camp Marcella — the New Jersey Camp for Blind Children. She joyfully spent her entire career as a special education teacher. She retired in June 2007 as a learning support teacher with the Northwestern School District in Albion.

Suzan was a member of the Harmonsburg Book Club, the Linesville Library Board and the Gem City Rock and Mineral Society of Erie.

She loved gardening and the outdoors. She enjoyed rock collecting and would wear jewelry made from her collection. Suzan will be greatly missed by all that knew her and carries with her the love of so many family and friends.

Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years, Dale J. Pysher; her parents, Edwin and Betty Marquis of Pittsburgh and Bonita Springs, Florida; a son, Matthew J. Pysher and his partner, Elizabeth Tenney, of California; eight siblings, Cheryl Marquis of Washington, D.C., Nancy McNeil and her husband, Dalph, of Clarion, Craig Marquis and his wife, Nasema, of Arlington, Texas, Jay Marquis of Pittsburgh, Linda Rohar and her late husband, Paul, of Pittsburgh, Jeff Marquis and his partner, Victoria, of Irving, Texas, Lauren Eheman and her husband, Larry, of Pittsburgh and David Marquis and his wife, Tammi, of Pittsburgh; and 17 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville. A gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Linesville Community Public Library, PO Box 97, Linesville, Pa. 16424; to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or to the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute — melanoma research, UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15232.
