Frances S. Cotton

CONNEAUTVILLE —

Frances S. Cotton, 98, formerly of Harmonsburg, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville.

Frances was born June 15, 1913, in Carroll Township, a daughter of John Schroer and Frances Mertens Schroer. She married Carl R. Cotton on Oct. 11, 1948, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1978.

She was a hard-working homemaker who loved to garden, cook and bake. She always was sharing her goodies with her friends and family. She participated in numerous volunteer activities and loved to play cards with her friends and family. Having never driven a car in her life, she was an avid walker who always wore skirts. She was quoted as saying, “you would never find me wearing slacks.” She had previously attended Harmonsburg Presbyterian Church, where she was very active in the Ladies Aid group, then upon moving to Meadville, she attended Grace United Methodist Church.

She was an amazing person who was full of love and laughter and would do anything for anyone. She will be greatly missed by her great-niece Judy Crytzer, and her great-great nephews and niece Travis, Jeremy and Sequoia Crytzer, who loved her dearly.

Survivors include a nephew, Lawrence Weisman and his wife, Ruth, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a niece, Eleanor Willoughby and her husband, James, of Meadville; two grandsons, Terry Cotton of Virginia and Todd Cotton of Ohio; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Clemens J. Schroer, Harry Schroer and John J. Schroer; two sisters, Helen Engel and Mary Kelly; two nieces, Lillian Spratt and Helen Marie Frees, and two nephews, Walter Weisman and Charles Engel; and a stepson, Richard Cotton.

Her family would like to personally thank all of the nurses and caretakers at Rolling Fields for taking such good care of her and their friendship to her.

As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours and no service.

Please sign the guestbook at hatheway-tedesco.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville.
