MEADVILLE —
Ruth A. Thompson, 95, of Meadville, and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community for the past seven years, died there, Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
She was born Nov. 7, 1917, in New Castle, a daughter of John and Mary Evans Loy. She married Edgar C. (Dick) Thompson on Dec. 8, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1999.
A graduate of New Castle High School, Ruth retired from J.C. Penney Co. in Meadville. After retirement, she enjoyed golfing and sewing. She was a volunteer at Meadville Medical Center for 20 years.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Thompson and his wife, Jan, of Harleysville, and Robert Thompson and his wife, Wanda, of Ivyland; a daughter, Linda Thompson Hays of Cochranton; seven grandchildren, Carolyn Thompson Hammack of Albuquerque, N.M., Brian Thompson of Hatfield, Rick Thompson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Anna Haag of Philadelphia, Bradley Thompson of Ivyland, Matthew Thompson of Harleysville, and Sally Thompson of Willow Grove; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service in Greendale Cemetery will be held at a date and time to be announced.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Pennsylvania Chapter, 1128 State St., Suite 301, Erie, Pa. 16501.
Arrangements are under the direction of Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
