WARREN, Ohio —
Alvin S. Stesiak, 91, of Warren, Ohio, and formerly of Linesville, Sabastian, Fla., Champion, Ohio, and Colebrook, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at his residence.
Born July 25, 1921, in Wheeling, W.Va., he was a son of John and Stella Bis Stesiak. He married Anne Esther Hulvalchick on July 5, 1941, at St. Mary’s Church in Orwell, Ohio; she preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2005.
He served our country in the United States Army during World War II. For 35 years, Alvin worked for Packard Electric Division of General Motors in Warren, Ohio, stating as an hourly service boy and retiring in October 1981 as a salaried construction supervisor. He was highly respected by his peers and was a skilled tradesman.
He was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Linesville and the Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842.
Alvin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his wife Anne spent many fun filled hours fishing on Pymatuning Lake in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He was also a very accomplished carpenter, building his first cottage on Pymatuning Lake in Pennsylvania while working and then after retiring he had the cottage moved and built a home on the lake site. Alvin and Anne spent many hours working on the property and home creating a stupendous show place which Anne named “Shangrila.” Alvin, his wife, children and grandchildren had many great times at the lake home which was also referred to as “The Lake” or “Cottage.” It was everyone’s favorite gathering place!
Survivors include two daughters, Stacey A. Melfi and her husband, Joseph, of Girard, Ohio, and Patricia Downing and her husband, David, of Cortland, Ohio; two sons, Ronald A. Stesiak and his wife, Joan, of Pittsburgh and Patrick L. Stesiak and his wife, Linda, of Rotonda West, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Calabrese of Solon, Ohio, and Helen Ewaska of Colebrook, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; his parents John and Stella; a brother, Edward; and sisters Sophia Boone and Verona Baron.
A private immediate family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, Linesville.
The private burial will be in St. Philip Cemetery following Mass.
