ANDOVER, Ohio —
E. Mike Hancock, 81, went home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Born Feb. 21, 1931, in Afton, Okla., he was the son of William and Elizabeth Hancock. He married Sally Brown on May 24, 1975, in Andover, Ohio.
He was chief of police in Andover for many years. Also, Mike had worked as a supervisor at Locke Machine in Andover. For more than 20 years, he had trained and showed horses. He also taught judo.
He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marines for eight years, served in the Korean War, and was involved in demolition and mines.
Mike was of the Protestant faith.
He loved spending time with his family; his three-legged companion, Spike; and his four-legged companions, Nakita, Cisco and Duke. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Sally; three daughters, Karen Dennis and her husband, Darrel, of Conneaut, Ohio, Bonnie Van Dusen and her husband, Paul, of Linesville, and Ronnie Kelley and her husband, Tim, of Ashtabula, Ohio; four sons, Mike Hancock and his wife, Diane, of Oil City, Kenn Hancock of Espyville, Brian Hancock and his wife, Cathe, of Linesville, and John Hancock and his wife, Holly, of Pittsburgh; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sons, David and Steve Hancock.
Private services will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
