Rev. Norman C. McLean

MEADVILLE — The Rev. Norman C. McLean, 86, formerly of Chautauqua, N.Y., and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since October 2010, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Greenville, Dec. 20, 1926, a son of Ralph and Mamie Winters McLean. He married Anne Bowersox June 9, 1950, and she preceded him in death July 21, 2012.

He was a 1944 graduate of Penn High School, a 1948 graduate of Thiel College; in 1950 he received his bachelor of divinity degree and then in 1951 a master’s degree in sacred theology from Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, N.J. His first appointment was at Bemus Point (N.Y.) United Methodist Church; he then served Brockway United Methodist Church and later at various United Methodist churches in Niagara Falls, N.Y., Chautauqua, Lockport, N.Y., Buffalo and Westfield, N.Y., before retiring in 1989. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing in the Chautauqua area and in Cooper City, Fla. He was an avid sports fan who was normally tuned to ESPN.

He is survived by a nephew, G. Edward Bowersox III of Somerset; two nieces, Marilyn Faris of Bryn Mawr and Marjorie Fiebinger of Vienna, Austria; two great-nephews; two great-nieces; several great-great nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Bowersox, of Somerset.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

The memorial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Barco Chapel of Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, and the Rev. J. Paul Womack, pastor of Hurlbut Memorial Community United Methodist Church, Chautauqua, co-officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
