Evelyn J. Brown

CONNEAUTVILLE —

Evelyn J. Brown, 86, of Penn Line, Conneaut Township, passed away Monday, July 16, 2012, at Rolling Fields in Conneautville, where she had resided for the last 11 years, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She had previously lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., for 25 years.

Born Sept. 28, 1925, in Morann, she was a daughter of Mike and Mary Sefchick Chabola. She married Donald James Brown in 1945. Together they had three sons; he preceded her in death in August 1951. She married Stephen D. Brown on Sept. 21, 1952, at St. Peter’s Church in Conneautville. Together they had one daughter; he preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1996.

Evelyn and her family owned and operated Penn Line Garden and Bowling Lanes from 1946 until 1971. She also was a hairdresser and worked out of her home in Penn Line.

She was a member of St. Philip’s Church in Linesville and was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was very active in parish functions and Friday night bingo at St. Helen’s in Tamarac, Fla.

She was a former member of the ladies auxiliary at the Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842. Evelyn was an avid bowler. She was well-known for her optimistic personality, her fun loving nature and her sense of humor.

Survivors include three sons, D. James Brown and his wife, Mary, of Conneaut Lake, Raymond T. Brown and his wife, Carol, of Penn Line, and David E. Brown of Penn Line; a daughter, Rebecca A. Eckstrom of Davenport, Fla.; six grandchildren, Pete Brown and his wife, Nikki, of Columbia, S.C., Adam Brown and his wife, Abby, of Chicago, Ill., Ray Brown Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Spring Lake, N.C., Robert Brown and his wife, Rhonda, of Linesville, Amber Hill and her husband, Andy, of Andover, Ohio, and Morgan Brown of Jefferson, Ohio; six great-grandchildren, Aaron Brown, Audra Brown, Riley and Jackson Brown, Alyssa and Ashton Brown; brother, Joseph Chabola and his wife, June, of Venice, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Annabelle Scheppelman and Helene Brown, and two brothers, John and Tom Chabola.

Calling hours will be private at the convenience of the family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville, with Father Dennis Veltri, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Philip Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s name to Rolling Fields, for the promotion of the Eden Alternative, at 9108 State Highway 198, Conneautville, Pa. 16406.

Arrangements are under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
