Kenneth D. Albertson

SAEGERTOWN — Kenneth D. Albertson, 85, formerly of Sharpsville, born and raised in Erie, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.

He was born Dec. 18, 1927, the son of the late Claude and Emma Fischer Albertson. He married Mary Evelyn Starkey on Aug. 18, 1961, and she preceded him in death on March 8, 2006.

He attended Strong Vincent High School and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps based out of the U.S. Naval Base in Brooklyn, N.Y. While serving, he rose to Sergeant, completed instruction for the Uniform Code of Military Justice at the U.S. Naval School of Justice, earned the expert Rifleman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, among others.

Kenneth was an avid wrestler both in high school and during his time in the Marines. The Second Combat Service Group Wrestling Team was awarded first place in the 1952 Camp Wrestling Match due to his efforts as coach and organizer.

He was assigned as reporter to a Board of Investigation in April 1953 and then was appointed assistant trial counsel of the Special Court Martial on Oct. 21, 1953. Between 1954 and 1955, Kenneth acted as legal chief for a Group Legal Office, overseeing many facets of the group’s functions both in Puerto Rico and San Juan.

Kenneth was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades for many years, and WJET Radio proclaimed May 1, 1971, to be “Be Kind to Kenny Albertson Day” because of his continued involvement with the community. He was an avid hunter, fisher, painter and fix-it man, and he continued his community involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

He is survived by six children, LeAnne Swartz of Oklahoma, Wendy Noble and her husband, Frank, of Florida, Christine Kessner-Bragg and her husband, Jeffrey Bragg, of Linesville, Angela Patane and her husband, Larry, of Texas, Kimberly Albertson and his wife, Connie, and their three children of Nevada, David Albertson and his wife, Katrina, of Florida; 18 grandchildren, Kenneth Woodward and his wife Gail, Mary Beth, Patricia and Gladys, John Kessner, Scott Kessner and his wife, Heidi, Jennifer Kessner, Stephanie Kessner, Krystal, Jessica, Jason, Melissa, Alisa, Ashley, Amanda, Theresa, Alexandra and David; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Wonetta Rockwell and Grace Pruyn; and six brothers, Donald, George, Bob, Jack, Bill and Carroll.

Arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family.
