Timothy E. Lynch

ERIE —

Timothy E. Lynch, 73, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012, at Erie VA Medical Center.

Timothy was born at home in Meadville on Jan. 4, 1939, the third of 10 children of the late LeRoy T. and Julia Swaney Lynch.

Tim attended St. Brigid Grade School and graduated from Meadville High School in 1956. He was active in Boy Scouts throughout his school years and later served as assistant scout master for Troop 2111 in Meadville.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1963. He was a personnel officer at Ft. Benning, Ga., and was honorably discharged with the rank of E5. In 1964 Tim began his career with Delta Airlines. He worked for Delta in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit and Pittsburgh as well as in India after Delta purchased PanAm airlines. He previously had been employed by the former Albro Packing of Springboro and the former Talon Inc. of Meadville.

Tim traveled much, visiting many European capitals, Hawaii, Australia and the Caribbean. Tim traveled with his widowed father on several of his many trips to Ireland. He also took his father on many of his trips to Europe and to Hawaii. Upon his retirement in 1992, he lived in Hopewell Township until 2004 when he moved to Yankeetown, Fla. He was involved in many aspects of community life in the Yankeetown area and he was loved and admired by the residents of that community.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Michael J. Lynch Jr.

He is survived by nine siblings who loved him dearly. They include: Patrick T. of North Ft. Myers, Fla., J. Terrence (Judy) of Erie, Jean (John) Mottillo of Meadville, Michael J. (Mary Ann) of Meadville, Daniel K. (Mary Lee) of Fairview, Christopher R. (Anne) of Erie, Sean F. (Vicki) of Erie, Eileen (Avery) Ownby of Knoxville, Tenn., Luanne (Jennifer) of San Gabriel, Calif.; and a dear friend, Sharon Inman. He is further survived by 24 nieces and nephews who all adored their “Uncle Bear.” They are Patrick T. Lynch, Timothy J. Lynch, Mary G. Lynch, Brian M. Lynch, Kevin M. Lynch, Brendan Lynch, Jane Barbash, Ann Van Houten, Mary Schodt, Beth Schodt, Katy Benison, John A. Yanacek, Kathy Weaver, Steve Lynch, Susan Andrews, Ryan D. Lynch, Patrick D. Lynch, Daniel J. Lynch, Julia K. Lynch, Connor J. Lynch, Sean F. Lynch II, Heidi Edwards, Charles Jones and Kevin Jones. He is survived by 39 grandnieces and grandnephews including twin boys to be born this summer.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a scripture service will be conducted at 3:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, with Father Johnathan Schmolt, pastor, and Father Robert Fedore as celebrants.

Burial will take place at the family lot in St. James Cemetery, Crossingville, with Father Thaddeus T. Kondzielski presiding at burial.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip Church, Route 98, Crossingville, Pa. 16412; or Seton Catholic School, 385 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
