Ruth Ann Stallsmith

GREENVILLE — Ruth Ann Stallsmith, 79, formerly of Hadley Road, Hadley, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Friday, July 27, 2012, at St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township.

Born Jan. 4, 1933, in Sugar Creek Township, Venango County, she was a daughter of the late Harry L. and Ruth B. Karns Bean. Ruth Ann was raised in the Franklin and Cochranton areas with the assistance of Frank and Nellie Semple, who became second parents to her.

She was a 1951 graduate of Cochranton High School.

In her early years, Ruth Ann worked at the Cochranton Co-op and then worked at the Red & White Store of Cochranton where she retired after 30 years.

She was a longtime active member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church, New Vernon Township, and was a member of the Ladies Missionary Society.

Ruth Ann was a dedicated wife and caregiver to her disabled husband and was a loving mother to her children. Blessed in life by the devotion of her brothers and sisters and those of her husband, she looked forward to the many family reunions and gatherings.

She was her daughters’ biggest advocate and their lives were enriched by her selfless nature. Ruth Ann loved a good joke and cooking Sunday dinners for her family.

Her husband David L. Stallsmith, whom she married on Dec. 15, 1955, preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 2000.

She is survived by four daughters, Dianne S. Voorhies and her husband, Gary, of Sandy Lake, Jill E. Lengauer and her husband, Philip Jr., of Clarks Mills, Lisa A. Foster and her husband, Craig, of Union Grove, Ala., and Jeannine K. Weber and her husband, Steve, of Uniontown, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Stacie Clark and her husband, Kevin, of Hadley, Michelle Bowersox and her husband, Nathan, of Sandy Lake, Abigail Averitt and her husband, Lenny, of Erie, Kahle Foster of Union Grove, Drew Lengauer of Clarks Mills, Cameron and Connor Foster of Union Grove, and Nicholas and Jason Weber of Uniontown; two great-grandsons, Cole Bowersox of Sandy Lake and Quintin Clark of Hadley; a sister, Margaret Dunn of Saegertown; three brothers, Dale Bean and his wife, Wenna, and Paul Bean and his wife, Janet, both of Meadville, and John Bean and his wife, Gail, of Cochranton; and many devoted brothers and sisters in law.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth Ann was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren, Stephanie Sue and Eric David Voorhies; two sisters and five brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fairfield Presbyterian Church, 41 Deer Creek Road, Sandy Lake, Pa. 16145; or St. Paul’s, 339 E. Jamestown Road, Greenville, Pa. 16125.

Calling hours are on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

The funeral is Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Fairfield Presbyterian Church, 41 Deer Creek Road, Sandy Lake, with the Rev. Brian Ennis, pastor, officiating.

Interment is in Fairfield Cemetery, New Vernon Township.
