Al E. Shay, 58, of Guys Mills, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012, at Meadville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Al was born in Meadville on Sept. 12, 1953, a son of the late Harold and Betty (Seeley) Shay.
Al had been employed as a truck driver for Vallonia Industries and had previously driven truck for Angelica as well as several other companies. He had also worked as a mechanic.
Al was a 1972 graduate of Meadville Area High School. He was a member of Saegertown American Legion Post 205, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 and West Mead’s fire hall. His hobbies included working on equipment and being a gentleman farmer.
Al is survived by three sisters, Rose Powell and her husband, Donald, and Grace Wagner, both of Meadville, and Linda Mancinelli and her husband, Gary, of Chicago; a nephew, Daniel Powell and his wife, Rose Ann; two nieces, Jestine Urquhart and her husband, Robert, and Tammy Moore and her husband, Allen; great-nieces and great-nephews Jullyan and Lawrence Mailliard, Eris Eels, Eric and Allan Powell, Brandon, Isaac and Megan Urquhart, and Amanda, Lilly and Jaclyn Moore; great-great-nephews Lawrence Jr., Riley and Sam Powell; a very special person in his life, Mary Ashby of Meadville; and dear friends Scott and Susie Hanaway and their boys Kyle and Logan of Meadville.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley L. Shay; and a niece, Karen Mailliard.
Family and friends are invited to call today from 3 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeff Conley, pastor of Meadville Alliance Church, officiating.
