AKRON, Ohio — James B. Rector was born in Meadville on Aug. 6, 1921. Jim passed away peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2012, at his home in Akron, Ohio.

While in Meadville he attended First Presbyterian Church. Jim was a 1940 graduate of Meadville High School. While a student at Kent State University, his college education was interrupted by World War II. During the war he served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and spent time in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. In 1946 he returned to Kent State University and graduated in 1948 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. During his college years he was active in University Theater programs, the school’s veteran’s club, and social chairman of the Booster Club of Kent and a member of the Gamma Tau Delta social fraternity. Upon graduation, Jim pursued a career in sales, working for such companies as P.R. Mallory and Black & Decker. Jim enjoyed people and dealing with the public.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James A. Rector and Elizabeth Borrell Rector, both of Meadville; and his brother, Robert T. Rector Sr. He was also predeceased by the love of his life, and wife of 38 years, Susan E. Wilson Rector of Gainesboro, Tenn.; they were married in Fairlawn, Ohio, on Aug. 19, 1960.

Jim is survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Rector of Erie; and his nephew, Robert T. Rector Jr. of Katy, Texas, and nieces, Suzanne E. Watral of Naples, Fla., Judy Stafford of Baxter, Tenn., Patricia Walker of Hartsville, Tenn., Diane Phillippi of Tolono, Ill., Denise Barber of San Antonio, Texas, and Rosemary Burson of Auburn, Ala.

Services have already taken place.

He will be interred in the family plot in Greendale Cemetery in Meadville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kent State University Fashion Museum. Arrangements are under the direction of Billow Funeral Home, Fairlawn Chapel.
