MEADVILLE —
Will Dickson, 93, of 657 Jefferson St., Meadville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Meadville Medical Center.
Will was born in Ebony, Ark., on Sept. 1, 1919, a son of the late Ed and Mary Robertson Dickson. On June 24, 1950, Will married Frances Barksdale; she survives.
He was a 40-year member of St. John Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing gospel songs in the choir for many years.
In 1984, Will retired from the former Abex. He previously was employed by the former Meadville Malleable and General Electric in Erie. A veteran of World War II, Will served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 8, 1943, until his honorable discharge on July 20, 1945. He was a member of the Giblim Masonic Lodge 29 and Prince Hall Grand Masonic Lodge of Pennsylvania. Will loved to fish and he enjoyed following baseball, especially the Cleveland Indians.
In addition to his wife, Frances, of 62 years, Will is survived by a son, Fredrick Caywood of Orange County, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Gary Manning of Meadville, Debra, Fred, Daniel, Oliver, Drew and Shenita, all of California and Chicago, Ill.; many great-grandchildren; and a host of friends, cousins and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Will was preceded in death by a daughter, Deidra Manning; two sisters, Ruby Doyle and Lucy Bates; four brothers, Clarence, Joe Ben, and twin brothers James and John Dickson.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. John Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 792 N. Main St., Meadville, where a Homecoming Service will be held at 1 p.m., with Bishop Stanley Smith, pastor, officiating.
Interment with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Township.
