MEADVILLE — Florence M. Hamilton, 88, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, formerly of 900 C. St., Meadville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

Florence was born in Knox on May 9, 1924, a daughter of the late Orval Guy and Ruth Ida Sloan Courson. On Feb. 14, 1948, Florence married Frank M. Hamilton; he preceded her in death in April 1984.

After 15 years of service, Florence retired in 1994 from the former Star-Lite Motel where she had worked as manager. She had previously been employed by Holiday Inn, Meadville, the former Talon Inc. of Meadville and the former Aero Supply of Corry. She enjoyed participating in the YWCA swim classes where she also volunteered her time. Additionally she volunteered at the Community Center. Her hobbies included canning and working in her yard, especially with flowers.

Florence is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Colbert of Townville, and Cheryle Stellato and her husband, Anthony, of Russell; two grandchildren, Patrick G. Colbert and his wife, Michelle, and Tracy L. Dowler and her husband, Robert, all of Pittsburgh; a great-grandson who was the light of her life, Alexander Dowler; three sisters, Ruth Bailey of Cochranton, Helen Altman of Knox and Jean Kellogg of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Glenn Courson of Meadville; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Frank, of 36 years, Florence was preceded in death by a grandson, Ethan W. Colbert; a son-in-law, Philip Colbert; six sisters, Nellie Neupert, Addeline Reznor, Ethel Lindal, Beatrice Mays, Edna Eddy and Violet Whitesell; and three brothers, James, Ernest and Orville Courson.

Friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and also on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., with Pastor Philip Torre officiating.

Interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Township.
