Clifford Alton McAlevy

TROY CENTER — Clifford Alton McAlevy, 86, of Troy Center, died peacefully Sunday morning, Dec. 30, 2012, at Titusville Area Hospital from complications of pneumonia.

He was born June 11, 1926, in Troy Township, the beloved son of the late Roland R. and Lizzie Marie Proper McAlevy. He married Hazel D. Saxton on Sept. 20, 1947, in Diamond, and she survives.

He retired from Struthers Wells Corp. of Warren in February 1990. He was a supervisor foreman and automatic/hand welder. In addition, he was a dairy/Hereford farmer. He retired from farming in July 2004. He was affiliated with Troy Center Methodist Church.

He was a World War II veteran, inducted into the U.S Army on Aug. 9, 1944, and honorably discharged June 23, 1946. He served under Gen. George Patton’s 3rd Army, Tank Destroyer Division in the European Theater in 1945. When the war ended in Europe, he was assigned to the 7th Army in the engineer corps as a welder. He helped build the bridge over the Rhine River in Germany. He attained rank of corporal T-5 and was awarded a number of medals. He was classified as an expert marksman. He will be buried with full military honors.

He was a life member of both the Titusville Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion clubs.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Hazel, of 65 years, include four children, Clifford Dana McAlevy and wife Pam of Troy Center, James C. McAlevy and partner Phyllis Kenyon of Troy Center, Dawn McAlevy Fichtner and husband David of Cambridge Springs, and John E. McAlevy and wife Dana of Troy Center; a brother, Willis Joseph (Joe) McAlevy and wife Jean of Titusville; a sister, Edith Carl of Buffalo, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie; and three brothers, Clarence, Norman and Kenneth McAlevy.

Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Leo N. Hennes Funeral Home Inc., 203 E. Main St., Titusville, where the funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Terry Shreffler on Friday at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in Troy Center Cemetery, Troy Center.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Troy Center Methodist Church.
