Margaret H. Young

JAMESTOWN — Margaret H. Young, 87, of McElhaney Road, Greene Township, Jamestown, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at White Cliff Nursing Home, Greenville.

She was born in Manchester, England, on Sept. 28, 1925, a  daughter of Edwin Hill and Agnes (Travis) Hill. She married Clair L. Young on Oct. 5, 1945. He passed away on May 28, 1989.

She was a homemaker and had previously worked as a bookkeeper for her late husband’s business, Rowles Home and Industrial Saw Service in Jamestown.

She was an active member of Stateline United Methodist Church, Jamestown, where she had served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, lay minister, sang in the choir, and was active with In Full Bloom and Family Support. In addition, she was active for many years with the Jamestown Food Pantry, had served as a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts in Jamestown, had helped with relief efforts during the 1985 tornado in her community, and had volunteered at the former Soup Pantry in Greenville.

Margaret loved animals, and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.

Survivors include three sons, James E. Young and his wife, Mary, of Greenville, Philip H. Young and his fiancée, Cheryl Austin, of Jamestown, and Alan D. Young and his wife, Nancy, of Fredonia; one brother, David Birch and his wife, Jackie, of England; two grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Ted Hill and Ellis Hill.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville, and Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at Stateline United Methodist Church, 263 W. State Road, Jamestown.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stateline United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Bargar, pastor of the church, officiating.

Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stateline United Methodist Church, 263 W. State Road, Jamestown, Pa. 16134.
