XENIA, Ohio —
Mary Evelyn Schott, 87, of Xenia, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013.
She was born July 18, 1925, at Conneaut Lake, a daughter of Anna Belle (McKay) and Edwin Burton Shontz.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Elin Phillippo; brothers and sisters, John Leslie Shontz, Angie McDowell, Margaret Todd, Frank Shontz and Janet Hodge; and a nephew, David Frank Shontz Jr.
Mary graduated from Slippery Rock College and was an elementary teacher with the Sharon school system. On June 10, 1950, she married Lester Schott, and they had five children. She was an active member of the Memorial United Presbyterian Church, where she had taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the AAUW. She enjoyed traveling and shopping, attending Xenia High School sporting events and all social functions.
She is survived by her loving husband, Lester, of 62 years; children, Leslie Schott of Toledo, Ohio, Paul (Susan) Schott of New York, Alan (Sandra) Schott of Columbus, Ohio, and Marvin (Carol) Schott of North Canton, Ohio; a son-in-law: Carl Phillippo; seven grandchildren, Elin Schott, Kurt and Scott Phillippo, Simon and Caitlin Schott, Mary Vivian and Christian Schott; two stepgrandchildren, Andrew and Maggie Law; nieces and nephews, Jerry (Kathy) McDowell, Mary Ann (Bill) McGuckin, Thelma (Richard) Strealy, Charles (Marsha) McDowell, Bobby (Dorothy) Todd, Joyce (Scott) Ladner, Darlene (Chet) Bernosky, Barbara Jean (Woody) Schiffman, Carol (Jim) Thompson, John (Sharon) Hodge, James (Deborah) Hodge, Tom (Ginny) Schott and Jack (Cathy) Schott; as well as other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial United Presbyterian Church, 343 Ankeney Mill Road, Xenia, with Pastor Kelley Shin officiating.
Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
