SAEGERTOWN —
Marie K. Briggs, 98, resident of Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, passed away there on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, after a period of failing health. Previously, Marie was a longtime resident of Meadville. Born Sept. 24, 1914, in Meadville, Marie was a daughter of the late John Koessling and Clara Mae Peters Koessling.
After graduating from Meadville High School in 1932, Marie attended Allegheny College and Meadville Commercial College. She then became employed for a short time by NorthWest Rural Electric in Cambridge Springs where she was a bookkeeper. Following some years as a homemaker, Marie became employed in 1956 by the Enterprise News in Cambridge Springs as a teletype operator. In 1964, she began employment at The Meadville Tribune as a teletype operator, retiring in 1979.
Marie had a number of interests including card playing, reading, flower gardening, crossword puzzles, needle work and her many pet dogs over the years.
Preceding Marie in death, in addition to her parents, was her former husband, Ruric Bud Briggs.
Surviving Marie are two sons, Terry Briggs and his wife, Sue, of Centerville, and Tom Briggs and his wife, Martie, of Meadville; two granddaughters, Kristen Hamilton and her husband, Devin, and Erin Perkins and her husband, Kevin; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Hamilton, Jasmine Hamilton and Kaitlyn Hamilton; three stepgrandchildren, Bret Cancilla, Tia Spencer and Andrea Hirosky; nine stepgreat-grandchildren, and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 and are invited to attend funeral services there Monday morning at 10. The Rev. Temple Jarrell, pastor of New Beginnings Church of God in Meadville, will officiate.
