LAS VEGAS, Nev. —
Rexford L. Beckwith, 85, of Las Vegas, Nev., and formerly of Centerville, died at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.
He was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Athens Township, Centerville, a son of the late George and Jassamine Jackson Beckwith.
Rex was raised and educated in the Centerville area and graduated from Bloomfield High School. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he returned to Centerville and worked at General Electric in Erie for a few years. Rex then trained and became a master contractor. He was self-employed and worked throughout the area for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1991. He and his wife moved to Las Vegas in 2002.
Rex was a member of the United Methodist Church in Riceville. He enjoyed roller skating, dancing and woodworking.
In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgavina Strickland and Winifred Adsit; and two brothers, James Beckwith and George Edward Beckwith.
Rex is survived by his wife of 61 years, F. Louise Doan Beckwith, whom he married on June 25, 1951, in Lincolnville; two daughters, Linda Sue Coyne of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Debralee Beckwith of Las Vegas; a sister, Donna Carpenter of Ohio; and a brother, Harold Beckwith and his wife, Edna, of Corry. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Tim Mundaniohl and Kimberly Evans; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation or services held locally, however, there will be a memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas at a later date.
Burial in Riceville Cemetery will be held at a later time.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry.
