GUYS MILLS — Joe A. Slingluff, 78, of 10850 Beuchat Road, Guys Mills, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center.

Joe was born in Meadville on Jan. 10, 1935, a son of the late Claude A. and Ethel L. Heffern Slingluff.

On March 26, 1955, Joe married Gladness F. Rickert, who survives.

Joe was an independent truck driver. He had also driven for Quality Carriers and Matlock Tank Line. He had previously been employed by the former W.L. Dunn Construction Company. Joe enjoyed attending steam engine shows. He loved to camp anywhere within the United States but especially in the Tionesta area.

In addition to his wife, Gladness, of 57 years, Joe is survived by six children, Wanita L. Welsh of Guys Mills, Jean M. Speiker and her husband, Gary, of Grove City, Richard L. Slingluff of Guys Mills, Joe M. Slingluff and his wife, Brenda, of Berlin, Noreen A. Howell and her husband, Donald, of Alpharetta, Ga., and Claude A. Slingluff of Townville; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Claude Patterson, Alton Slingluff, Audean Mangus, Eileen Bowersox, twins Ronald and Donald Slingluff and infant Louisa Slingluff.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, Pa. 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
