Ramon James (Jim) (JC) Coy

UNIONTOWN — Ramon James (Jim) (JC) Coy, 88, of Uniontown, passed on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013.

He was born March 30, 1924, in Meadville, where he spent most of his life, an only child to Paul and Pearl (Garrison).

Following his graduation from Meadville High School, Jim served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. At conclusion of the war, Jim was employed by Westinghouse, Moody Drilling, GTI of Saegertown, DIC tool and finished his career as an industrial electrician at the Meadville Redevelopment Authority. Mr. Coy was an extremely hardworking man. He raised 10 children and did not retire from his full-time job until he was 72 years old. Up until the day he died he would do his own yard work, shovel his own driveway, and refused to call any type of repairman until he gave it all his own effort.

Jim was a talented musician and was adept at many instruments including guitar, piano, organ and violin.

An avid antique and gun collector, Jim was considered an expert in antique firearms by many of his peers. He was the former president of the Presque Isle Gun Collectors and a member of both the Ohio and Pennsylvania gun clubs. Mr. Coy was also an active member of the Conneaut Lake Historical Society. Besides his family, the only passion he had greater than that of guns was his love of animals. A dedicated dog owner he, like clockwork, would brave the elements and painful joints to walk his dog without complaint.

Jim was preceded in death by his sons, Mark and Peter Brown; and two grandchildren, Stephen Knott and Mary Grey Arnold Brown.

His memory will be cherished by his wife, Barbara; his daughters, Barbara Coy of Connellsville, Becky Arnold and husband, Mark, of Bruceton, Tenn., Connie Koch of Charlotte, N.C., Danette Lynch of Reston, Va., and Carolyn Quinn of Chalkhill; his sons, David Coy of Meadville, Dan Coy and wife, Linda, of Waxahachie, Texas, and Matt Coy and wife, Michelle, of Moon Township; his 21 grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren; and his great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held in May. Details will be provided at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s name to the Fayette Friends of Animals, PO Box 1282, Uniontown, Pa. 15401, (724) 245-7815, fayettefriendsofanimals.net.
