MEADVILLE —
Joseph R. Furgiuele, 93, of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 26, 1919, in Mendicino, Italy, a son of Enrico A. Furgiuele and Amelia Greco Furgiuele.
Joseph attended masonry school and was a brick and stone mason. He was a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard and the U.S. Marine Corps.
He attended the Church of the Nazarene in Coaltown. He was a member of the Order of Italian Sons and Daughters of America in Pittsburgh; he enjoyed traveling, gardening, farming, reading, crossword puzzles and smoking his pipe. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by a daughter, Sylvia Marzolf and her late husband, Elmer, of Haines City, Fla.; three sons, Joseph Furgiuele and his wife, Linda, of Harmonsburg, Enrico Furgiuele and his wife, Shelly, of New Brighton, and Gino Furgiuele of Slippery Rock; 12 grandchildren, Joseph Furgiuele III and his wife, Kristie, Sylvia Furgiuele-Taylor and her significant other, John Jordan, Maria Wilcox and her husband, Robert II, Renee Wilson and her husband, Robert, Bruce Whitemore and his wife, Chris, Sabrina Pierce, Chrissy Fredrick and her husband, Dan, Nikki Burns and her husband, Colin, Kim Furgiuele and her significant other, Brian Cupp, Tyler Stadtfeld, Lori Giangiuli and her husband, Rodney, and Jeff Marzolf; 27 great-grandchildren, Joseph Furgiuele IV, Nikki Hamm, Austin Taylor, Dakota Taylor, Cameron Jordan, Garrett, Patrica and Robert Wilcox, Dustyno Miller, Nikalena, Jobe and Elijah Wilson, Brianna Parks, Tyler Terrill, Joey Whitmore, Stephanie Pierce, Jeremy Gentile, Dakota and Hunter Elms, Jamison, Lochlan and Analise Burns, Braden Cupp, Cailyn Furgiuele, Justin, Ryan and Marisa Giangiuli; three great-great-grandchildren, Nina Elms, Fred Jr. and Gabby Lenk; two sisters, Lucille Smith and her husband, Jerry, of Pittsburgh, and Rose Mazur and her late husband, Albert, of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Enrico Furgiuele and his late wife, Mary, of Westview, and Anthony Furgiuele and his wife, Janet, of Westview; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives, Patrica Mickinak Furgiuele, Florence Sandre Furgiuele Singer and Sara Flack; two sisters, Mary Petrocelly and Yolanda Segreti; a brother, Vincent Furgiuele; a granddaughter, Tina Maria Furgiuele; and a grandson, Ryan Stadtfeld.
A memorial service will be held Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at Unionville United Methodist Church, 1297 Route 68, Rochester, (724-843-0862), officiated by the Rev. Douglas Myers Jr.
