Shirley Dean (Deanie) Anderson Strangis


LINESVILLE — Shirley Dean (Deanie) Anderson Strangis, 73, of Linesville, passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born Nov. 24, 1935, in Pettrey, W.Va., she was the daughter of Carlos W. and Georgia Williams Anderson. She married Samuel A. Strangis on Nov. 24, 1954, in McKeesport.

She was a member of Traditional Latin Mass Apostolate in Saegertown.

She retired in 1993 as an office manager from PNS Entertainment Enterprises. Previously she had worked for 10 years at CMD Electronics in McKeesport.

Shirley was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, watching Pittsburgh Penguins hockey, and working with genealogy on the computer. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Samuel A. Strangis; six daughters, Michele Stefanides and her husband, Dan, of Wellsboro, Karen Wojcik and her husband, Ken, of North Canton, Ohio, Kathleen Gwinn of Elizabeth Boro, Donna Dowd and her husband, Mark, of North Huntington, Barbara Morgan and her husband, Eric, of North Huntington, and Linda Leck and her husband, Pete, of New Wilmington; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Butler of Talcott, W.Va., and Barbara Brooks of Natchitoches, La.; a brother, Donald Sherry of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Joy Mae McIntyre.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Hwy. 6, Linesville.

Latin Requiem Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernadette’s Church, Renner Lane, Saegertown, with Father David Poulson as celebrant.

Burial will in Our Lady of Queen of the Americas Cemetery, Conneaut Lake.
