Deanna (Dee) L. Shick

Deanna (Dee) L. Shick, 71, of Meadville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born on March 10, 1938, in Distant, Pa., she was a daughter of Daniel and Marian Shreckengost. She married Dutch Shick on March 21, 1955, in Distant.

Dee was employed at Kroger’s Grocery Store for 23 years. In 1978, she and Dutch opened The Boot Box in Meadville and have been owners and operators of the business ever since.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her beloved family. She enjoyed spending time at home with them as well as spending time in Val d’Or, Canada, with Dutch. She loved gardening, cooking and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 54 years, include a daughter, Yvonne Batka and her husband, John, of Meadville; two grandsons, Dillon Artice and his fiancée, Emilee McAlevy, and Dalton Artice and his girlfriend, Ashlee Baker; three great-grandsons, Tailor McGee, Logan Artice and Dakohta Artice; two brothers, Larry Shreckengost and his wife, Barb, of New York and Rick Schreckengost and his wife, Cheryl, of New Bethlehem; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by the funeral at 1 p.m., officiated by Kenneth Hough, at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville.

Interment will be in Watson Run Church Cemetery, South Watson Run Road, Meadville.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the organization of the donor’s choice.
