William H. Weifenbach Sr.

CONNEAUT LAKE — William H. Weifenbach Sr., 78, of Conneaut Lake, died at home, Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009.

He was born in Sheridan, Nov. 27, 1930, a son of Henry and Myrtle Wetzel Weifenbach. He married Mary Ann Auten Feb. 25, 1956, and she survives.

He retired in 1991 from United Airlines as lead ramp serviceman at the Pittsburgh Airport after 35 years of service. Previously, he worked for Capital Airlines in Pittsburgh from 1956-1960.

He was a 1948 graduate of Langley High School in Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He was a member of Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church and served in its finance, building and grounds, mission and outreach committees and Share the Spirit Christmas program. He was a former member of the Sharon Presbyterian Church in Moon Township, Allegheny County.

He was a man of deep faith, loving the Lord and his church. He also volunteered as a member of Doris Egyud’s birthday party celebrations at the Quality Living Center and Juniper Village. In his retirement, he helped as a custodian at the church. He was a member of Linesville American Legion Post 462 and the United Airlines Retiree Association

He loved watching football (Steelers) and hockey (Penguins) and his greatest passion was golfing with a special group of friends and his breakfast buddies. Retiring to the Conneaut Lake area, a place he loved visiting as a child was a dream come true for him. He was also a man who loved children, always generously giving to those in need and his sons and grandson always knew they could count on him.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Mary Ann, include two sons, William H. Weifenbach Jr. of Conneaut Lake and John Weifenbach of Pittsburgh; a grandson, Justin Robert Weifenbach of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Stropkaj and a brother, Robert Weifenbach.

Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake.

Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church, 145 S. Fifth Street, Conneaut Lake with the Rev. William Mills, pastor of the church, officiating.

Entombment with military honors provided by Harm Jan Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will be in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens mausoleum.

The family suggests memorials be made to Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 150, Conneaut Lake, Pa., 16316, Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa., 16335, or the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, Pa., 16335.
