Brian C. Courtney, 52, of 1120 Market St., Apt. 606, Meadville, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at home.

Brian was born in Buffalo, N.Y., March 16, 1957, a son of James J. and Norine W. Wasmer Courtney.

For more than 20 years Brian had been employed by Northwest Training Consortium, which was later known as G.E.C.A.C. He had also been employed by Big Brothers and Sisters, Bethesda Children’s Home and as a therapeutic support staff member with Associates in Counseling and Child Guidance.

A 1975 graduate of Meadville Area Senior High School, Brian went on to graduate in 1979 from Clarion University with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences.

Brian was an avid sports fan who enjoyed following the Cleveland Browns and especially the Cleveland Indians. He was a member of the Eagles Club of Meadville where he was currently serving as vice president.

In addition to his parents, James and Norine Courtney of Meadville; Brian is survived by a son, Matthew B. Courtney, a daughter Renee M. Courtney, both of Meadville; a brother, Gary J. Courtney and his wife, Anna, of Hyde Park, N.Y.; and three nieces.

A memorial service will be conducted at Stephen P Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, at 4 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Jeff Conley, pastor of Meadville Alliance Church, officiating.
