Thomas (Tim) C. Simpson

MEADVILLE — Thomas (Tim) C. Simpson, 87, of 11903 Dawn Drive, Meadville, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at Saint Vincent Health System, Erie.

Tim was born in Berea, Ohio, on Jan. 27, 1926, a son of the late Thomas C. and Harriet (Hales) Simpson Sr.

On March 4, 1949, Tim married Nell Marley; she survives.

Over the years Tim had been employed as president and construction manager of Elmer Hume Inc., Amherst, Ohio, and also as president of Rodney W. DeVore Co. From 1982 until 1990 he worked as the supply officer for Fulda Elementary School in Fulda, Germany, where his wife, Nell, was teaching. Upon returning to the United States Tim was the project manager for the Venango County Care Center building project. He also was employed by Dalton Deeter Plumbing and Heating and as a building inspector for the City of Meadville.

A World War II U.S. Army Air Corps sergeant, Tim served his country from July 7, 1944, until his honorable discharge on June 27, 1946.

A graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Tim was a private pilot and a former member of the Meadville Pilots Association. Over the years Tim served on the board of the Salvation Army, the YMCA, both of Meadville, and as past president of Lorain County Builders Association. He was a member of the Meadville Jaycees, Lions Club, Rotary Club and BSA.

In addition to his wife, Nell, of nearly 64 years, Tim is survived by five children, Philip Simpson and his wife, Karla Fisk, of New York, N.Y., Brian Simpson and his wife, Darlene, of Meadville, Mark Simpson and his wife, Karen, of Edinboro, Michael Simpson and his wife, Sue, of Amherst, and Lisa Simpson McKinless of Nashville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, Erica, Julie, Kevin, Sofia, Adrianna, Ryan, Natalie, Carol Anne, Timothy, Ashley and Megan; three great-grandchildren, Luke, Austin and Avery; two sisters, Jo Anne Brough of Fostoria, Ohio, and Sue Marley of Meadville; a brother, John Simpson and his wife, Betty, of Avon Lake, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Thomas and Harriet Simpson, Tim was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Philip Marley and Gerald Brough; and two nephews, David Marley and Jon Brough.

At the family's request, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will take place in Venango Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 1087 Park Ave., or Meadville Public Library, 848 N. Main St., both of Meadville, Pa. 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
