CONNEAUTVILLE — Elizabeth (Betty) Lehman, 91, of 9108 State Highway 198, Conneautville, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Rolling Fields Inc.
She was born in Pittsburgh on Nov. 21, 1917, a daughter of the late Constantine and Elizabeth Schafer Varee. She married John Lehman in October of 1939 and he preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1971.
Betty had been previously employed by the former Spencer Hospital for 16 years as a nurses aide. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society.
She is survived by her children, John Lehman of Meadville, Frank Lehman of Carothersville, Ind., Barbara E. Lehman of Meadville, George Lehman of Conneautville, James Lehman of Gilbert, Ariz., Lawrence Lehman of Endicott, N.Y., and Mary Hughes of Meadville; sisters Barbara Varee of Conneautville, Margaret Slubowski of Erie, Magdalena Steigerwald of Springboro and Kathryn Martin of Michigan; brothers Constantine Varee of Madison Heights, Mich., and John Varee of Springboro; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, Betty was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Carrie Ann Hughes; three brothers, Frank, Joseph and Nicholas Varee; and two sisters, Frances Fenn and Anna Varee.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 501 Washington St., Conneautville, on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., with Father John Walsh as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. James Cemetery, Crossingville.
