DALLAS, Texas —
Lawrence George Besson, 68, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, in his Dallas, Texas, home in the presence of his family, after a 10-year battle with thyroid cancer.
Larry, as he was known, was born April 1, 1944, in Corry, to the late Merle A. and Janet M. Frantz Besson.
Larry graduated from Saegertown High School in 1962 where he played trombone in their award-winning marching band. He received his bachelor of science in aeronautical engineering in 1966 and a master’s degree in business administration in 1967 from Pennsylvania State University. While at Penn State, he met Taunee Snyder, whom he married in 1968.
Larry’s working life began at Grummann Aircraft Corp. in New York City, then General Dynamics Corp. in Fort Worth, Texas. He retired as chief financial officer and administrator of the natural resources division of W.R. Grace Corp. in Dallas. After retirement he consulted with businesses to raise capital.
Larry was an avid golfer. He liked to think up engineering solutions for home maintenance or working on, and driving, his Porsche. He also was fond of teaching his daughters routine home and car care and of cheering on his wife in her successful entrepreneurship.
Larry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Taunee, of the home; his daughters, Amber (Dwight) Blaha of Ridgefield, Conn., and Teal (Deena) Besson of Carrollton, Texas; and grandchildren, Alexander Blaha, Nathan Blaha and Graham Avery Besson. Also surviving are his sister, Christine (Alfred) Hendrix of New Philadelphia, Ohio; and his nephew, Lee A. Hendrix of Columbia, Md.
At his request, Larry was cremated. A Remembrance ceremony will be held at a later date.
