SAEGERTOWN —
James (Jim) E. DeRoss, 72, of 420 Euclid Ave., PO Box 478, Saegertown, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at St. Vincent Health System, Erie.
Jim was born in Meadville on May 7, 1940, a son of the late Kenneth and Sara Sorg DeRoss. On Oct. 23, 1976, Jim married Vicki M. Groves, who survives.
He was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church.
For more than 25 years, Jim was the owner and operator of Jim’s News, Meadville. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Jim served his country honorably from Jan. 22, 1959, to Nov. 1, 1962. He attended schools in the Linesville and Harmonsburg area prior to earning his GED. Jim was a member of Saegertown American Legion and he loved to golf.
In addition to his wife, Vicki, of 36 years, Jim is survived by two children, Daniel J. DeRoss and his wife, Sandi, of Crawfordville, Fla., and Brian C. DeRoss of Meadville; four grandchildren, Ryan, Hunter, Brett and Braiden; a sister, Nancy Hodge of Pennsylvania; a brother, Charles (Chuck) DeRoss of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Moore; and a brother, Gerald DeRoss.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., where full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, followed by a memorial service, will be held at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Darrell L. Greenawalt, pastor, officiating.
