HADLEY — Roy L.Young, 83, of 1 Grandview Drive, Hadley (Perry Township), passed away at 12:41 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Meadville Medical Center, Liberty Street.
Roy was born on Sept. 2, 1926, in Transfer, a son of the late Clair and Sarah (McCutcheon) Young. On April 20, 1953, he married the former Doris Flick, who preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2008.
He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy.
Following his military service, Roy began working at the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad for five years, having then gone to work for Westinghouse Electric and subsequently for GATX, Masury, Ohio, for 20 years. He also had worked as a sporting goods salesman and for Warner Continental Trucking. In his later years, he was a used car salesman for Eells Used Cars, Meadville.
He was an active member of Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, where he had held various offices throughout the years.
He was a former officer and member of the Commodore Perry Lions Club and a member of Cpl. James O. Jordan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Greenville.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda L. Hall of Atlantic; two sons, the Rev. Larry E. Young and his wife, Ella, of Hamilton, Ohio, and Donald Young and his wife, Dianna, of Highland Springs, Va.; a foster son, Clifton Williams of Hadley; 12 grandchildren, Traci Hall, Tristan Young, Jeremy Young, Benjamin Young, Michael Young, Matthew Young, Rebecca Schram, Larry Young Jr., Kyle Bell, Kent Bell, Kevin Bell and Kris Bell; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 years; and a brother, Clair Young Jr.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home Ltd., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steven Lamb, pastor of Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, officiating.
The committal service with military honors accorded by Cpl. James O. Jordan VFW Post 3374 will follow in Sheakleyville Cemetery.
