COOPERSTOWN —
Thomas A. Nuhfer, 60, of Cooperstown, died at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.
Born Dec. 17, 1951, in Oil City, he was a son of Mary (Lawerence) Nuhfer Douglas and the late Robert Francis Nuhfer.
Tom was a 1969 graduate of Rocky Grove High School. He then attended Auto Diesel college in Nashville, Tenn.
He enjoyed dirt track racing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed fishing, attending flea markets and auctions, spending time with his grandchildren and the companionship of his pet dogs, Earl and Fred.
He was employed as a millwright for Advanced Cast Products in Meadville, retiring in 2010.
He was married in Franklin on Aug. 17, 1972, to Susan R. (Overmoyer) Nuhfer, who preceded him in death Sept. 12, 1988.
Surviving are his mother, Mary (Lawerence) Nuhfer Douglas of Cooperstown; four children, Rosemary Nuhfer-Barry and husband, Sean, of Stowe Township, Jacquelyn Deeter and husband, Chad, of Cooperstown, Thomas F. Nuhfer of Polk, and Tammy Seitz and husband, Roy, of Lower Burrell; four grandchildren, Savannah and Brooke Deeter of Cooperstown, Liam Barry of Stowe Township and Katie-Raye Seitz of Lower Burrell. Tom was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his fifth grandchild, due in April. Also surviving is a brother, Robert Nuhfer and wife, Robin, of Harrisville; a sister, Rhonda Wiltanger and husband, Steve, of Cambridge Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father and wife, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles Douglas; his grandparents, D.A. and Ella Lawerence; and his brother, Jack Nuhfer.
Friends will be received today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home Inc., 2781 Route 257, Seneca, Cranberry Township.
Funeral services will be held from the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Diane Whitman of Polk Presbyterian Church officiating.
Interment will follow in Venus Cemetery.
