Faye H. Anderson

MEADVILLE — Faye H. Anderson, 104, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community since 1995, passed away there Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013.

She was born Sept. 10, 1908, in Tryonville, a daughter of George and Julia Clement Hineman. She married J. Gordon Oakes on Oct. 26, 1934, and he preceded her in death July 6, 1956. She subsequently married Paul J. Lang on Dec. 22, 1962, and he preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1986. She subsequently married Paul M. Smith on Oct. 24, 1987, and he preceded her in death July 29, 1991. She subsequently married the Rev. George Anderson on June 3, 1995, and he preceded her in death April 9, 1998.

Faye was a graduate of Townville High School, a 1933 graduate of Edinboro State Teachers College, and did postgraduate work at Penn State University. She was a school teacher in Crawford County for 35 years, retiring in 1971. She taught at a one-room school at South Richmond, Richmond Township and Davis School, East Mead Township. She subsequently taught at the Wayland, Black Ash and Randolph-East Mead schools.

A member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Faye was a member of the national, Pennsylvania and local associations of school retirees. She enjoyed traveling and especially spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald G. Oakes and his wife, Roberta, of Guys Mills, and David E. Oakes and his wife, Lenore, of Belen, N.M.; a former daughter-in-law, Joyce Tarr of Guys Mills; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and also stepgrandchildren. stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, James C. Oakes; a brother, Carl Hineman; and two sisters, Fern Cutshall and Della DeVillars.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, 29034 State Highway 27, Guys Mills, with the Rev. Alice McClymonds, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
