MEADVILLE — Arthur J. Rowland, 88, of Meadville, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Crawford County Care Center.

He was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Meadville, a son of Fred Rowland and Eva Pauline Shepard Rowland. He married Gloria E. Hassett on Aug. 26, 1950; she preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2012.

He worked as a structural iron worker for Local 207 in Youngstown, Ohio.

Arthur served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He was member of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ.

He is survived by two sons, Frederick Rowland and his wife, Mary Lou, of Meadville and William Rowland of Rock Hill, S.C.; two daughters, Barbara Payne of Berea, Ohio, and Rebecca Rowland of Meadville; four grandchildren, Amy, Krista, Jill and Shawn; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife, Gloria, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hour is Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David McAfee of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ officiating.

Burial will follow at Denny Cemetery, Hayfield Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Arthur’s memory to Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ, 1070 Park Ave., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
