William L. Jackson

MEADVILLE — William L. Jackson, 81, of Meadville, went to be with his Lord and Savior after a long and courageous battle with his health, Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at  Meadville Medical Center.

He was born July 11, 1931, in Kittanning, a son of Lee Noble and Anna Mae Geiger Jackson. He married Mary Louise Rosenberger on Sept. 8, 1955; she survives.

He was a veteran of the Korean War receiving the Bronze Star for bravery under fire. He worked for PPG for 43 years, first in Ford City, then in Meadville, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 and Vernon Central Fire Department. He enjoyed building, tinkering around the garage, traveling and camping.

He was a wonderful husband and father. In addition to his wife, Mary, of 57 years, he is survived by three sons, William L. Jackson Jr. and his wife, Michele, of Cochranton, Perry L. Jackson and his wife, Sue, of Meadville, and David B. Jackson of Conneaut Lake; a daughter, Linda L. Marshall and her husband, Scott, of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Misty Jackson, Tiffany Jackson, Jason Jackson, Lindsey Jackson, Aaron Jackson, Ashley Jackson, Michael Marshall and Brandon Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Alex Sweetapple and Madison Rhodes; three sisters, Esther Taylor and her husband, Tom, of Ford City, Shirley Gowetski and her husband, Brian, of Conneaut Lake, and Betty Walters and her husband, Gary, of Meadville; two brothers, Alfred Jackson and his wife, Donna, of Ford City, and David Jackson and his wife, Diane, of Hermitage; a special niece, Mary Jane Crownover; and other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Jackson.

Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Walton, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post #2006.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 353 Chestnut St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
