BETHANY, Okla. — The Rev. Herbert (Herb) Warden Ford, 78, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1934, to Herbert Lyman Ford and Dorothy Pettit Ford in Meadville. He attended Randolph East Mead High School.

Herb married Marguerite Brannon on March 27, 1954. Early in their married life they moved to Phoenix, Ariz. While living there, Herbert, who had a passion for education, earned his associate degree. He and Marguerite were instrumental in starting the Bible Missionary Church in Phoenix. The Ford family moved to Bethany, Okla., in 1968.

Herb earned his bachelor of arts in education at Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany. He was also a precision machinist and a quality control inspector at CMI and Baker Oil in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Herb was an ordained minister in the Bible Missionary Church where he and his wife were faithful members. Serving faithfully over the years in many capacities, Herb willingly performed any task asked of him. He served on the District Advisory Board for the Southwest District of the Bible Missionary Church. Teaching in the Christian Day School, money counter, trustee, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, bus driver and even cutting the grass were just a few of the jobs he willingly did for his church. He taught his last Sunday school lesson and attended his last Foreign Missions service on Feb. 3, 2013. Herb’s deepest desire was to have a preaching, teaching and writing ministry where he might see souls won to Jesus. He faithfully did his part, and now the mantle of this ministry is being handed down through his family with three called preachers and two writers to perpetuate the message of Jesus Christ. Herb was a stalwart man of character who displayed the “Fruits of the Spirit” like a true Christian gentleman. Only eternity will reveal the far reaching impact of this quiet, unassuming man of the cross. This spiritual pillar of the church was taken unexpectedly from our lives but will never be forgotten from our hearts. He was a devoted husband, loving father and very patient grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his children, Gloria Renee and Robert Lyman.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Marguerite (Peggy) Ford of Oklahoma City; his loving children, Victoria Ford and Larry Ford of Oklahoma City, and Randy and Gayle Ford Bates of Sherrard, Ill.; five treasured grandchildren, Angela Wheelock, Crystal Haugh, Jessica Schneider, Jennifer Lawton and Randy Bates; eight precious great-grandchildren, Megan and Anna Wheelock, Abigayle Haugh, Seth, Trent and Krysten Schneider, Brooklyn and Brenna Lawton; three siblings, Joyce Graham, John Ford and Henry Ford; and a host of loved ones and friends.

Viewing was Friday at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury Ave., Bethany.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at the Bible Missionary Church in Bethany, with interment in Bethany Cemetery.
