Max A. Shull

WEST SPRINGFIELD —

Max A. Shull, 72, of West Springfield, formerly from the Loyal and Marshfield, Wis., area, passed away quietly at his home early Saturday morning, Feb. 9, 2013.

Max was born in Cochranton on May 15, 1939, a son of the late Max E. and Wilda Charlotte Randall Shull.

He graduated from the Huntington, Ind., High School and proudly served our country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. After the war, Max decided to do many different things. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Wisconsin, and he loved doing auto body repair work and painting cars. He was the chief executive officer of the Centerville Auto Body in California and in 2001, he retired from Skufca Auto Body in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Max moved around quite a bit and found things to do and he enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed going to the Veterans of Foreign Wars with his wife. When he lived in California, he was a member of the Optimist Club and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed playing pool and was a 40-year veteran member and player in the Sanctioned Valley 8 Pool League. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and gardening. One of his greatest achievements were the two cars he painted and were featured on the cover of “Hot Rod” magazine.

Besides his parents, Max was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Burnell Shull; a sister, Wilda Charlotte Shull; a stepdaughter, Tracy Ylisaari; and a brother-in-law, Cal Henry.

Max is survived by his wife, Karen Ylisaari; four children, Susan Shull and her husband, Ken Delap, of Marshfield, Randy Shull and his wife, Renee, of Camp Douglas, Wis., Roger Maxon and his wife, Anabel, of Denver, and Dana Kanneberg and her husband, Troy, of Marshfield; a stepson, Trevor Ylisaari and his wife, Linda, of Conneaut, Ohio; a sister, Esther Henry of Indianapolis; a brother, Paul Shull and his wife, Lois, of Cochranton; three brothers-in-law, David Diehl and his wife, Judy, and Raymond Diehl and his wife, Marjorie, all of West Springfield, and Charles Roney of Lake City; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the Life Celebration Service at 3 p.m. at Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main St., East Springfield.
