KARNS CITY —
John B. (Giambattista) Andreassi, 86, of Karns City, a well known area resident and retired oil producer, went to be with the Lord and his departed family Monday morning, Nov. 26, 2012, at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
John was born in Villa Sant’Angelo, Italy, on Jan. 7, 1926. He was a son of Achille and Clelia Notareschi Andreassi.
He was a graduate of East Brady High School’s class of 1944. He was a long-time member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend and was instrumental in installing veterans markers in St. Mary Cemetery. Mr. Andreassi was very proud of his Italian heritage and had made many trips to Italy with his wife and children, where they each visited with him the town in which he was born. John was a life member of the Sons of Italy in Bradys Bend. His membership spanned more than 61 years and he had served the organization as president. He was a founding member of the Karns City Quarterback Club and was the last surviving original member of the club. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and held season tickets for many years.
He was a U.S Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations in the South Pacific. He saw action at both Okinawa and Iwo Jima, serving aboard the USS LST-809, a tank landing ship. He was a life member of both the American Legion Post 488 of Bradys Bend and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7876 of Chicora. He was an avid gardener. Mr. Andreassi was a well known self-employed oil and gas producer for many years and was a member of the Pennsylvania Independent Petroleum Producers and was named an honorary director of the organization.
Mr. Andreassi was married in East Brady on Oct. 22, 1949 to the former Joanne Painter. Mrs. Andreassi preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 2007.
He is survived by seven children, Kathleen Andreassi of Butler, Joan O’Donnell and her husband, Dennis, of Saegertown, Mike Andreassi and his wife, Leah, of Chicora, Amy Andreassi of Murraysville, Chris Andreassi and his wife, Valorie, of Butler, Steve Andreassi and his wife, Lori, of Chicora, and Gina Andreassi of Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren, Megan O’Donnell of Phoenix, Ariz., Kelly O’Donnell and his wife, Melissa, of Greensboro, N.C., Matthew Andreassi of Butler, Daniel Andreassi of Pittsburgh, Tony Andreassi of Tucson, Ariz., Jon Andreassi of Butler, Carlo Andreassi of Butler, Nicholas Andreassi and his wife, Kayla, of East Brady, Livia Andreassi of Chicora, and Julia Andreassi of Chicora; a brother, John A. Andreassi and his wife, Mary, of East Brady; a sister, Lena Hillwig, of East Brady; two sisters-in-law, Dawn Weibel and her husband, John, of East Brady and Lucy Painter of Butler; a brother-in-law, Bill Painter and his wife, Jeanne, of East Brady; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son and daughter; and a brother, Adolfo Andreassi.
Friends were received at Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, on Wednesday.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Bradys Bend, with the Rev. Joseph Bonafed, pastor of St. Mary Our Lady of Lourdes in Export and St. John Baptist de la Salle in Delmont, officiating.
Interment with full military honors accorded by Bradys Bend and Chicora American Legion Posts and Chicora VFW was in St. Mary Cemetery, Bradys Bend.
