CONNEAUTVILLE —
Olie William Olson Jr. of Conneautville died at his home on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, after a long battle with lung disease.
He was born in Coraopolis on Dec. 9, 1939, the son of the late Olie Isaac Olson and Marion LaForce Olson. He was married on March 11, 1962, to Kaye Hicks, who survives.
Olie retired as the vice president and general manager of Small Arms Manufacturing Co. of Bridgeville.
He was an accomplished engineer, weapons expert and firearms specialist. He served in the U.S. Army, in the 82nd Airborne Division, as a Green Beret (Ranger) and a paratrooper.
He fought for our country in the Vietnam War and earned and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. His interests and activities included competition shooting, snowmobile racing and from being a fishing boat captain to a skilled mechanic. Olie was known to his family friends and neighbors as “the man who could fix anything.”
He is survived by his wife, Kaye, of 52 years; three children, Donna Lewis, Tammy Lyne and Sonya Guidish; and five grandchildren, Lacey Conn, Kristian Holmes, Kaylon Kirk, Kat Lewis and Greg Lyne Jr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanna Long.
A memorial service will be held on May 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Olson Park in Coraopolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
Arrangements are in the care of Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville.
