Eleanora Gage

EDINBORO — Eleanora Gage, 96, died at Edinboro Manor, Edinboro, on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, with her family by her side. She had been in declining health for some time.

Born in Erie on Oct. 18, 1916, Elnora was a daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Degner Becker.

After her graduation from Erie Academy High School, she attended Erie Business School where she met her beloved husband to be, George Gage. They were married on Oct. 21, 1939, in Erie and then moved to Cambridge Springs.

In 1957, the family moved to Orlando, where they owned and operated a mobile home park. In 1968, they returned to Cambridge Springs and she was employed part-time at the Edinboro IGA until her retirement.

Nora, as she was fondly called, was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Drakes Mills and served on the Altar Society for many years. Her greatest pleasure was in caring for her family and friends. An avid reader, Nora spent much of her free time with books, even until her older years.

Nora’s survivors include two daughters, Judith Wolfe and her husband, Gale, of Cambridge Springs and Jane Johnson of Fort Washington, Md.; grandchildren, Scott and Lisa Wolfe of Cambridge Springs, Gregory Wolfe and his companion, Jacqueline Leonard, of Union City, Suzanne Lagman of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Amy and Brian DeMarr of Easton, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Chad Wolfe and his wife, Jennifer, Brent Wolfe and his companion, Brittany Tidd, Gage Lagman, Amanda Lagman, Tommy Lagman, Alyssa Mosely, Neven Mosely, Michael Mosely and Norah DeMarr; two great-great-grandchildren, Hailey Wolfe and Jayden Wolfe; and several nieces and nephews.

Nora was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and her husband, George, who died Jan. 18, 1993, by four sisters, Bertha Wheeler, Florence Magenau, Helen Conover and Dorothy Morrell; and by a brother, Carl Becker.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Drakes Mills with Rev. Brian Riddle, pastor of the church, officiating.

Interment will be in Drakes Mills Cemetery.

Nora’s family would like to thank the staff of the Edinboro Manor for the tender loving care they gave her for the three years she lived there.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Cambridge Springs Public Library, 158 McClellan St., Cambridge Springs, Pa. 16403.
