WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Jack H. Gartner, formerly of Meadville, passed away Aug. 29, 2010, at JFK Medical Center, West Palm Beach, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; a son, Robert D. Gartner; a step-son, Jerry Effert; a niece, Cindy Oslasky Firth; and great-niece, Jennifer Firth.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret; his father, Michael; a brother, Michael Jr.; and his twin sister, Jill Kerns.
Jack joined the U.S. Coast Guard in June 1942. He served in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and the liberation of the Philippines.
No services will be held.
Edgley Cremation Services, West Palm Beach, Fla., is handling the arrangements.
