Patrick G. (Boomer) Mahoney




SAEGERTOWN — Patrick G. (Boomer) Mahoney, 82, of Fountain House Park, Saegertown, died peacefully on Monday, March 8, 2010, surrounded by his family at home.

He was born March 6, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., a son of Lenard A. and Dorothy McMindes Mahoney. He married Joyce M. West on May 23, 1973; she survives.

He was a member of Ironworkers Local 348. He was a “boomer” and worked all over the world. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran; he served his country honorably at the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II.

He was a member of Pleasantview Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.

He was a proud member of AA; loved to read history books and science fiction; and was an avid fly fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Joyce M. Mahoney of Saegertown; six daughters, Melody Meeks and her husband, Daniel, of Wilmington, N.C., Erin Mahoney of Saegertown, Mary Hatch and her husband, Leon, of Glendale, Ariz., Cindy Smith of New York, Roberta Sedor of Grove City, Ohio, and Julie-Marie Eckert and her wife, Stephanie Eckert, of Meadville; a son, Joseph Mahoney of Sault St. Marie, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Leah, Kimberly, Jamie Sue, Devon, Michael, Kieran, Brenden and Corey; eight great-grandchildren; and two cousins, Jim Garvey and his wife, Mary of Chicago, and LaVerne Burkenstock of Indiana state.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hour will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Pleasantview CMA church.

The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at Pleasantview CMA church, with Pastor Russel Huizing of the church officiating.

Arrangements are in care of Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville. Cremation will take place in the funeral home’s crematory.
