John A. Bole



John A. Bole, 82, of Meadville, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born July 19, 1927, in Newark, N.J., a son of the late Jesse W. and Sara Moses Miller Bole. He married Jeanne Swanlund on Dec. 27, 1950.

Following graduation from high school, John enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the final months of World War II. Following his discharge he enrolled at Heidelberg College, Tiffin, Ohio, and graduated in 1950 with a bachelor of arts degree in business. He then received his commission in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was owner and operator of Bole’s Office Supply and Equipment, Meadville, for 39 years, retiring in 2009. He previously was employed at GTI and Talon, Meadville; Texas Instruments, Attleboro, Mass.; and RCA, Harrison, N.J.

John was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Meadville, where he was a former deacon and elder. He was a member of Meadville Masonic Lodge 408 and the Scottish Rite Bodies of New Castle. He was a former member and past president of the Rotary Club of Meadville and was a former member of the Rotary A.M. Club of Meadville. He was also a former Barbershop member and he enjoyed his years golfing as a member of the Hailwood Golf League.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Jeanne of 58 years, include two daughters, Barbara A. Stewart and her husband, Richard, of Peachtree City, Ga., and Patricia J. Armstrong and her husband, Randy, of Meadville; a son, John A. Bole Jr. of Charleston, S.C.; and three grandchildren, R. Ryan, Shawn B. and Nathan P. Stewart, all of Peachtree City.

There are no calling hours.

The funeral service is today at 2 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, with the Rev. Dr. Brian Jensen, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment with military honors provided by Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will be in Greendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 1087 Park Ave., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
