John W. Skurnog Jr.



John W. Skurnog Jr., 90, of Meadville, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Rolling Fields in Conneautville.

He was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Poland. He first wife Amelia M. Skurnog, preceded him in death in 1990. He married Virginia Sterling on Dec. 12, 1994; she survives.

He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church in Meadville.

Throughout his life he worked as a steel worker, as a dairy farmer and in construction.

He loved to be outdoors working in his yard and riding his lawnmower.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Virginia Skurnog; his stepchildren, Carl Williams and his wife, Marilyn, of Pierpont, Ohio, Sharon Johnson of Ashtabula, Ohio, Roger Williams and his wife, Debi, of Willoughby, Ohio, Karen Williams of Ashtabula, Alan Williams of Conneaut, Ohio, Carol Downing of Leesburg, Fla., Tammy Stills and her husband, Alan, of Conneaut, Thomas Whitbread of Conneaut, and James Whitbread and his wife, Jackie, of Conneaut; his goddaughter, Cathy Duell; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Amelia; and an infant son.

Calling hour will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday following the calling hour at the church, with Father Raymond C. Gramata as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery in Meadville.

The family suggests memorials be made to Rolling Fields, 9108 State Highway 198, Conneautville, Pa. 16406.

Arrangements are under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
