George E. Tomer



GUYS MILLS — George E. Tomer, 91, of 15479 Tomer Road, Guys Mills, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville.

Born in Pittsburgh on Oct. 29, 1918, he was a son of William and Mae Bradley Tomer. He married Helen Mae Howard on Oct. 25, 1941; she preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 2005.

He retired after 47 years as a Richmond Township supervisor and roadmaster. He was also a farmer and a school bus driver.

He enjoyed farming and running the road grader. He loved his community. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Township Association, former member of Richmond Grange, president of the Crawford County Supervisor County Association and a member of the Odd Fellows.

He was affiliated with New Richmond United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four children, Mary Lee Brooks, Paul E. Tomer and his wife, Betty, Judy M. Smock and her husband, Ken, and John Tomer and his wife, Vickie, all of Guys Mills; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two brothers.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Willis L. Arnold Funeral Home, Main Street, Townville, and Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at New Richmond United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Jeff Bobin, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to New Richmond United Methodist Church, 29776 State Highway 77, Guys Mills, Pa. 16327.
