SPRINGBORO — John Sladick, of Springboro, died suddenly Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Meadville Medical Center. He was 93.
Born Sept. 28, 1916, he resided at his home at 25286 Spring Road, with his son, Mark, and grandson, Johnny, following the passing of his wife, Dorothy, of 69 years. She preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2009.
He was the sole surviving son of Joseph and Mary Bubba Sladick; and brother to Michael, Joseph, Emory, Annie, Helen, Mary and Susan, who preceded him in death.
Married May 11, 1940, to his beloved wife, Dorothy, he was grandest father to Annette Cox, Daniel Sladick, Kathleen Balicki and Mark Sladick. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
John was of the Catholic faith, being a long-time member of St. Peter’s Parish in Conneautville.
John had retired in 1978, a life-long auto body mechanic and all-around handyman, with his roots in Pennsylvania’s coal country, being born in Chambersville, then moving to Cleveland, Ohio, after the big flood washed away their farm. He loved dancing with his wife, Dorothy, and they did just that every opportunity until “ole Arthur” (arthritis) took over, limiting him to an aided walk. He then concentrated his energies to keeping the bird feeders full and an occasional log at the ready for the wood stove. He loved his family, his westerns and, most of all, Dorothy.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at White-Cool Funeral Home, 1405 Main St., Conneautville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 501 Washington St., Conneautville.
