TAMPA, Fla. — Robert Cooper Oakes, 66, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009.

He was born in Meadville on April 7, 1943, and a graduate of Cochranton High School in 1961. He moved to Tampa, Fla., in 1978 and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Oakes.

He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his wife of 39 years, Brenda Smock Oakes; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Rob Eddy; daughter, Melissa Oakes; and adored granddaughter, Ella Jane Eddy. Robert is also survived by two brothers, Charles Oakes of Florida, and Howard Oakes and his wife, Barbara, also of Florida.

Robert served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was a past member of the Zem Zem Shriners.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at the Oakes’ home in Tampa on Dec. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m.
