COCHRANTON —
Fort LeBoeuf has been solid all season long; solid enough, in fact, to earn the Bison the No. 4 ranking in the state in Class AA by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.
But even solid teams are bound to have an off night here and there. Tuesday night was that night for the Lady Bison.
Fortunately for Fort LeBoeuf, it wasn’t a very good night for Ambridge either. And fortunately for Fort LeBoeuf even an off night is a pretty good night.
The Lady Bison punched their tickets to the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals last night with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-12 win over the Bridgers.
“I told them it’s hard to yell at them when they’re moving on,” Fort LeBoeuf coach Leann Byer said. “But we know that wasn’t pretty and we know that isn’t how we play.
“It’s a shame to come this far and play really badly. If that other team would have tested us more would we have been able to pick it up or not? I’m not so sure we would have.”
The Bison will get a chance to redeem themselves on Saturday in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals. Fort LeBoeuf will face top-ranked Hopewell at 2 p.m. at Sharpsville High School.
Byer is hoping last night’s match will leave her team hungry.
“I sure hope so,” she said. “We’re going to have to play better. I’m sure if we don’t show up it will be over before it even started.”
The Bison did get some balanced offense in the win against the Bridgers. Larissa Cass led the Bison (18-0) with 10 kills. Maria Peluso added nine and Jolene Young chipped in with seven.
