BERWYN —
Emily Ray, Sarah Jacobs and Lindsay Hasbrouck went a combined 8-for-9 with seven runs and seven RBIs to lead Mid-East/ Cochranton/ Saegertown to a 14-1 five-inning win over Plains in the winner’s bracket semifinal of the
Senior League softball state championships Friday.
The win earned MECS a spot in Sunday’s winner’s bracket final where it will face Bristol Borough, a 4-1 winner over Towanda yesterday, at 1:30 p.m. Plains (6-5) drops into the loser’s bracket and will face Caln Township today at 4 p.m.
Ray paced the locals, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored and a double. Jacobs was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Hasbrouck was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs. Kellilynn Dickson also roped a double for MECS.
Sadie Brunot and Taylor Smith combined for the win on the mound, allowing just four hits.
MECS plans to spend today trying to beat the heat. Coach Mike Dickson said temperatures were near 100 degrees yesterday. Weather forecasts for the Philadelphia area are calling for heat and humidity today that will lead to high heat index values around 105 to 110 degrees.
“We’re going to try to stay cool,” Dickson said. “There’s a big mall we’re going to go to. We found a place with a batting cage. We’ll probably do some batting practice just to stay fresh. Nothing too much.”
