GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE — The sunny side of Lake Erie is an attraction all by

itself, but just in case the shoreline isn’t enough excitement, the village

has Adventure Zone.

This family entertainment mecca on the lake offers Go-Karts, bumper boats,

mini golf, batting cages, climbing and repelling walls, and a play area and

snack shop.

“We didn’t do too much to change Adventure Zone this year. We just

concentrated on improving the attractions,” owner Larry Winchell said.

Adventure Zone got a new arcade last year, an attraction Winchell said has

people lining up for admission this year.

“I think word of mouth really got around last year, because we had a lot of

repeat customers. I don’t know, my favorite attractions are still the

Go-Karts and mini golf,” he said.

The bumper boats also make for a great day of fun in the sun, Winchell said.

“The bumper boats are motorized rubber boats and they are awesome,

especially on a hot summer day. We added more boats to the fleet this year

to make it even better,” Winchell said.

Winchell, along with most merchants at Geneva-on-the-Lake, is hoping for

nothing but sunshine for this season.

“The weather is a deal maker or breaker for the summer season. It is the

most important element of summer and it is also the thing you can’t control,

which is tough. I have a good feeling about this year and I think everyone

on the ‘strip’ feels that way, too,” he said.

The best thing about Geneva-on-the-Lake and Adventure Zone is the

family-oriented nature of the attractions, Winchell said.

“Adventure Zone is an awesome place. We have something for all ages, even

the toddlers. If the little ones aren’t happy, no one is happy!” he said.

Adventure Zone is located at 5600 Lake Road on the west end of the

Geneva-on-the-Lake strip. Hours began Mother’s Day weekend and are Saturdays

from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The summer season officially begins June 8 when Adventure Zone opens seven

days a week, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11

p.m. Friday and Saturday.
